What is Feature Prioritization Matrix?

A feature prioritization matrix scores potential features using frameworks like RICE (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort) or ICE (Impact, Confidence, Ease) to produce a ranked list. Each feature is scored on multiple dimensions, and the composite score determines priority order.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1List all the features or initiatives you want to prioritize in the backlog column.
  2. 2Score each item on Reach (users affected), Impact (benefit per user), and Confidence (certainty of estimates).
  3. 3Enter the Effort estimate in person-weeks for each item.
  4. 4Review the calculated RICE scores and the ranked list.
  5. 5Override scores with context the numbers cannot capture, but document why so decisions are transparent.

Why this matters for founders

Startups always have more ideas than resources. Without a systematic prioritization framework, decisions default to the loudest voice, the most recent customer request, or the founder's personal preference. Frameworks like RICE remove bias and force evidence-based prioritization.
